Nashville Food Safety Consultant
HACCP, Preventive Controls, and SQF programs for Nashville's specialty food makers, bakeries, and beverage producers.
Nashville is one of the fastest-growing food towns in the country, and its manufacturing base is growing with it, from Germantown bakeries and Southern specialty producers to prepared-food plants and beverage makers across Middle Tennessee. New facilities, relocations, and expansions mean a lot of first audits and first licenses, and Tennessee wants to see your plans before you build. We do the hands-on work of building or upgrading your food safety plans, prerequisite programs, and traceability, then rehearse the audit so nothing surprises you. We build it with your team, not as a course you finish alone.
A boom town for food, where a lot of programs are being built from scratch
Tennessee has more than 1,600 food and beverage manufacturers, and Middle Tennessee is one of the hottest corners of that growth. Nashville pairs a deep Southern food tradition, hot chicken, barbecue, baked goods, and comfort staples, with a steady stream of new bakeries, snack and prepared-food plants, beverage brands, and relocating manufacturers. What ties them together is timing: many are standing up their first real food safety program, applying for a first state license, or preparing for a first retail audit. That is precisely the moment good guidance pays off, and precisely where we work.
Tennessee's food manufacturing base is scaling fast, and audits are scaling with it
Growth is good for business and hard on compliance. New lines, new facilities, and new buyers all raise the bar at once, and a program that worked at farmers-market scale rarely survives a retail buyer's audit. We help Nashville companies put durable systems under their growth.
- 1,600+
- Food and beverage manufacturers across Tennessee.
- 35,000+
- Tennesseans employed in food and beverage manufacturing.
- 5,400+
- New food and beverage jobs announced across the state since 2018.
Southern specialty and prepared foods, each with controls a template misses
Nashville's signature products are flavorful, varied, and often deceptively complex from a food safety standpoint. We build for the specific hazards behind them rather than reaching for a generic plan.

PREPARED, SAUCED, AND SOUTHERN STAPLES
Hot chicken, sauces, sides, and prepared meals
Prepared and sauced foods carry a stack of control points, from cooking and cooling to acidification and allergen management, and many of Nashville's signature products sit right in that zone.
- Cook, cool, and hot-hold controls for prepared foods
- Acidified food filings for sauces, rubs, and marinades
- Allergen control across shared, multi-recipe lines
- Sanitation and environmental monitoring for RTE areas

BAKERY, SNACKS, AND BEVERAGE
Baked goods, snacks, coffee, and craft drinks
Bakeries, snack makers, roasters, and beverage producers each bring their own shelf-life, microbial, and packaging questions, and increasingly a retail buyer who wants a certified program behind the label.
- Shelf-life, water activity, and preservation controls
- Thermal process and packaging integrity checks
- Supplier approval and incoming ingredient verification
- Recall and traceability exercises that hold up in audits
In Tennessee, the state reviews your plans before you build
Tennessee regulates food manufacturing through the Department of Agriculture under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and it works in a specific order that catches many new operators off guard. Getting these steps right, early, keeps a build or a launch on schedule.
Plan review before construction - TN DEPT OF AGRICULTURE
Before you build, remodel, or convert a space into a food establishment, TDA requires you to submit plans and specifications for review, and construction cannot start until they approve. Skipping this step is a common and costly mistake.
Food manufacturer license - TDA, TIERED BY SIZE AND RISK
Any facility that manufactures, processes, or packs food for commerce needs a manufacturer license. Facilities over 10,000 square feet are licensed as large, smaller ones as small, with the risk tier set by the department based on your products and process.
Food warehouse license - TDA
Warehouses that hold food for commerce need their own license, unless already covered by a manufacturer license. Given Nashville's role as a Southeastern distribution point, this often applies alongside manufacturing.
Federal and product-specific overlays - FDA, USDA, AND HEMP RULES
Interstate sales bring FDA Preventive Controls and, for covered foods, FSMA 204 traceability. Meat and poultry fall under USDA, and any product containing a hemp-derived cannabinoid must also meet Tennessee's separate hemp food regulations.
Restaurants and cottage producers - TN DEPT OF HEALTH / FOOD FREEDOM ACT
Restaurants and on-site food service are handled by the Department of Health, not Agriculture. Home producers under the Tennessee Food Freedom Act are exempt from licensing, but that ends the moment you use a commercial or shared kitchen. We help you time that transition.

What food and beverage teams say about working with us
"What I noticed is that every other food safety software we looked at starts from a premise, either accounting or manufacturing, or in the worst case scenario, manufacturing and then accounting, and the food safety module is an afterthought. The food safety features are bolted onto a dinosaur of a software program."
"The people at FoodReady, like Denice, add an excellent service to the program with their knowledge and ability to answer questions and improve the food safety programs of the clients."
"The hierarchy of our food safety/quality control team was changing, and we wanted a system that would grow with us. Being a newer company as well, FoodReady was the perfect companion. As a company grows, needs ebb and flow and changes, FoodReady has been more than accommodating to that. The software effortlessly keeps track of all of our changes to stay in compliance with the regulations set forth by the BRC standard for Documentation."
"Eurobake passed an FDA inspection within 4 weeks of implementation, passed a GMP audit within the first 3 months, and passed a GFSI audit within the first 8 months. We also passed a Costco audit. Our timeline for preparedness was driven by Eurobake’s needs and it could have been much faster if we did not have so many unique attributes."
Nashville food safety consulting, answered
Do we really need plan approval before we build?
Yes. In Tennessee, before you construct, remodel, or convert a space into a food establishment, the Department of Agriculture requires you to submit plans and specifications, and you cannot begin construction until they approve. We help you prepare that submission so your build stays on schedule.
We make hot chicken, sauces, or prepared foods. What controls do we need?
Prepared and sauced foods need cook, cool, and hot-hold controls, and many sauces and marinades fall under acidified food rules requiring a filed process. Add allergen control for shared lines and sanitation for RTE areas, and we build all of it into your plan.
We are moving from a home kitchen into wholesale. What changes?
Home producers under the Tennessee Food Freedom Act are exempt from licensing, but the moment you use a commercial or shared kitchen, or manufacture for wider distribution, you need a Department of Agriculture manufacturer license. We help you plan that step so a wholesale launch is not delayed.
Who licenses food manufacturers in Tennessee?
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture licenses food manufacturers and warehouses under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, with facility licenses tiered by size and risk. Restaurants fall under the Department of Health, meat and poultry involve USDA, and interstate sales bring FDA jurisdiction. We confirm which apply to you first.
Can you prepare us for SQF, BRCGS, or other GFSI audits?
Yes. We prepare facilities for SQF, BRCGS, and FSSC 22000, plus HACCP, FSMA Preventive Controls, GMP and cGMP, and USDA documentation. We run gap assessments, build documentation, run mock audits, and coach staff. We do not provide certification training.
Can you help us recover from a failed audit?
Yes. We analyze the nonconformances, address root causes, rebuild the weak areas of the plan, and run a focused mock audit. We also help craft effective CAPAs and assemble proof of effectiveness so you can close findings quickly.
