Atlanta Food Safety Consultant
Get your plant certified, keep national brand customers happy, and clear Georgia inspection with confidence.
Atlanta is where the brands are. Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A, Waffle House, and the restaurant portfolios headquartered here set specifications that ripple through every supplier and co-manufacturer in the region, and Georgia's own poultry and beverage plants add their own inspection demands on top. That combination puts unusual weight on your documentation. We do the hands-on work of building or upgrading HACCP and Preventive Controls plans, prerequisite programs, and traceability, then run a mock audit so nothing surprises you on the day. We partner with your team to deliver it, rather than handing you a course and walking away.

When your customers are household names, your records carry the weight
Few metros concentrate as many food and beverage headquarters as Atlanta, from Coca-Cola and Chick-fil-A to Waffle House, Moe's, Cinnabon, Church's, and HoneyBaked Ham. That matters for food safety because the suppliers and co-manufacturers who serve those brands inherit their private standards, which frequently run stricter than the regulations themselves. Layer on Georgia's position as the top poultry-producing state, a deep beverage-production base, and a logistics network reaching most of the country within a two-hour flight, and you get facilities that answer to brand specifications, GFSI auditors, and state and federal inspectors all at once. We build one program that holds up to every one of them.
Passing the audit is one thing. Meeting a brand's private standard is another.
Supplying a national restaurant or beverage brand rarely stops at a certificate. Customers arrive with their own supplier questionnaires, approved-supplier requirements, specification sheets, and second-party audits, and each one wants evidence in its own format. We help Atlanta suppliers and co-manufacturers translate those demands into a single working program, so you can onboard a major account without rebuilding your system for every buyer. Where we concentrate first:
- Brand-specific supplier questionnaires and approved-supplier packets
- Second-party and customer audit preparation
- Specification and label control across multiple customers
- Allergen and changeover control on shared production lines
- Foreign-material and quality controls that brands scrutinize
Beverage and liquid processing
Atlanta's beverage heritage runs deep, from soft drinks and juices to a fast-growing craft scene. Liquid processing brings its own controls: thermal processing and pasteurization validation, acidified and low-acid considerations, water and CIP sanitation, and container integrity. Our HACCP consulting team builds beverage-specific plans, and our FSMA 204 support keeps traceability audit-ready as your distribution grows.

The Georgia Food Act starts at the Department of Agriculture
Georgia regulates food sales establishments through the Department of Agriculture rather than a health department, and the state expects a pre-inspection before it issues a license. Knowing which track and which federal partner applies is the first move, because manufacturing, poultry, beverage, and retail each land in a different place.
Food sales establishments - GA DEPT OF AGRICULTURE
Under the Georgia Food Act, it is unlawful to operate a food sales establishment, including processing plants, bakeries, and wholesale operations, without a license from the Department of Agriculture. Licensing includes a pre-inspection and an annual July-to-June renewal.
Poultry, meat, and processing - GDA / USDA FSIS
As the leading poultry state, Georgia runs meat and poultry inspection alongside USDA FSIS. Slaughter and further-processing plants operate under continuous inspection, with sanitary dressing, SSOP, and validated HACCP expectations specific to protein.
FDA and FSMA overlay - FDA
Facilities whose wholesale sales exceed retail generally register with the FDA and implement Preventive Controls under 21 CFR Part 117. Interstate distribution brings the full weight of FSMA, including the Traceability Rule.
On-premise food service - GA DEPT OF PUBLIC HEALTH
Restaurants and establishments serving food for on-site consumption fall to the Department of Public Health, not Agriculture. Operations that both manufacture and serve need to satisfy whichever agency covers the majority of their business.
Cottage food and startups - GDA, UPDATED BY HB 398
Georgia's cottage food program changed in July 2025 under House Bill 398, which broadened where home producers can sell. As soon as you use a shared or commercial kitchen or make time and temperature controlled products, you move into food sales establishment licensing. We help you time that step so a wholesale launch is not delayed.

A clear path from first review to a passed audit
Our aim is a practical, sustainable program that clears certification and daily inspection and stays easy for your team to run. We work alongside operations, QA, and leadership at each stage, and we verify the system performs on the floor before anyone with a clipboard arrives.
Diagnostic review
An on-site or virtual assessment that maps flows, zoning, and controls, and measures your current systems against your target standard and Georgia licensing, ending in a prioritized action plan tied to your date.
Plan and document build
We create or refine hazard analysis, CCPs or preventive controls, SSOPs and prerequisite programs, supplier approval, and recall and traceability, with practical forms and version control.
Sanitation and monitoring
For RTE and higher-risk areas we design environmental monitoring: zone mapping, swab frequencies, Listeria and Salmonella strategies, trending, and corrective actions, with digital scheduling and capture.
Readiness verification
We run a focused mock audit, coach your recordkeepers, confirm the system works in practice, and help close remaining gaps with effective CAPAs so audit day is predictable.

What food and beverage teams say about working with us
"Food safety as a mandatory path has only become important in the last 10-15 years in the food industry. Nowadays, the FDA, USDA, SQF, and consumers no longer care if the food quality is good if it cannot be proven food-safe. What attracted Eurobake to FoodReady software is that FoodReady started with food safety and food traceability as its core. And because of this construct, it can easily be bolted on to accounting or manufacturing modules without corrupting or overcomplicating the data gathering process"
"The people at FoodReady are excellent to work with and care to get involved with your company and make it as best as it can be. FoodReady staff also helped provide training to our QA team."
"The mobile app is the software most often used by our team, it is helpful for tracking incoming supplies, and managing production runs. Checklists ensure a consistent quality of product and attention to detail throughout the process."
"Prior to my arrival at Up at Dawn, it was difficult for a consultant to monitor those less-than-daily tasks getting completed on schedule. Now it is effortless for me to use the task manager to assign them and ensure they’re not forgotten or lost in the hustle. The push notifications really make a difference in getting things done."
"Task Manager is phenomenal. I love being able to establish reoccurring tasks, monitor progress, and assign the checklists that need to be completed for each task. This keeps my team accountable and gives me ease of monitoring."
Atlanta food safety consulting, answered
Who issues food licenses in Georgia?
The Georgia Department of Agriculture licenses food sales establishments, including manufacturers, processors, bakeries, and wholesalers, under the Georgia Food Act, and requires a pre-inspection before issuing a license. On-premise food service is handled by the Department of Public Health, poultry and meat run alongside USDA FSIS, and interstate sales bring FDA jurisdiction. We confirm exactly which apply to you before building the program.
Our biggest customer is a national brand with its own audit. Can you prepare us?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons Atlanta suppliers call us. Beyond GFSI certification, we prepare you for brand-specific supplier questionnaires, approved-supplier requirements, and second-party audits, and we consolidate those demands into one program so you are not rebuilding your system for each customer.
Do you support beverage and bottling operations?
Yes. We build beverage-specific programs covering thermal processing and pasteurization validation, acidified and low-acid considerations, water and CIP sanitation, and container integrity, alongside the HACCP or preventive controls your buyers expect.
Can you help us achieve SQF, BRCGS, or other GFSI certification?
Yes. We prepare facilities for SQF, BRCGS, and FSSC 22000, plus HACCP, FSMA Preventive Controls, GMP and cGMP, and USDA documentation. We run gap assessments, build documentation, run mock audits, and coach your staff. We do not provide certification training.
We are moving from a home kitchen into wholesale. What changes?
Georgia's cottage food program changed under House Bill 398 in July 2025. Once you use a shared or commercial kitchen or make time and temperature controlled products, you move into food sales establishment licensing with the Department of Agriculture. We help you plan that transition so a wholesale or retail launch is not held up.
What is a realistic timeline to become audit ready?
It depends on your current systems and the standard or license you are targeting. Some Atlanta facilities are ready within weeks of the diagnostic review, others take several months. We build a roadmap around your date and tackle the highest-impact items first.
