Bushwick Tea brought order to small-batch production.

Bushwick Tea is a small-batch organic whole-leaf tea company rooted in Brooklyn, New York. Founded by lifelong tea enthusiast Ratesh Chopra, the brand was created to make high-quality whole-leaf tea feel more approachable, expressive, and relevant to a new generation of tea drinkers.

Bushwick Tea sources organic teas, herbs, botanicals, and spices from around the world and develops distinctive blends ranging from bold breakfast teas to green teas and botanical infusions. Its products are packed in-house, with an emphasis on freshness, quality, flavor, and increasingly sustainable packaging. As the business grew, however, producing great tea consistently required more structure behind the scenes. Bushwick Tea needed a more organized way to manage incoming supplies, production runs, food safety procedures, checklists, HACCP activities, and growing regulatory requirements. The goal was not simply to create food safety documents. The company wanted to bring greater transparency, accountability, and consistency into everyday production.

FoodReady helped Bushwick Tea develop a dry-tea HACCP plan, SOPs, and digital checklists, then trained the team to use the platform for batch monitoring, receiving, food safety records, and production management.

The Challenge

Small-batch craftsmanship still needs repeatable processes.

Bushwick Tea built its reputation around whole-leaf teas, carefully selected ingredients, and blends designed to deliver a consistent experience from one cup to the next. But consistency in the finished product depends on consistency in production. As the company grew, Bushwick Tea needed to organize and streamline the processes behind its tea operation while introducing stronger GMP and HACCP practices.

Incoming supplies had to be recorded. Production runs needed to be tracked. Employees needed clear SOPs. Routine activities had to be completed consistently. And the company needed reliable food safety records that could support regulatory requirements and future audits.

For a small team, managing those responsibilities across disconnected documents and manual processes would create unnecessary complexity. Bushwick Tea needed a food safety system that could strengthen the operation without getting in the way of it.

What Bushwick Tea needed

  • Dry-tea HACCP plan - A food safety program tailored to its production process
  • Standard Operating Procedures - Clear instructions employees could consistently follow
  • Digital checklists - Repeatable workflows for quality and food safety activities
  • Production run tracking - Better visibility into individual blending and packing activities
  • Incoming supply records - A structured way to document materials entering the facility
  • GMP implementation - More disciplined food manufacturing practices
  • Employee training - A practical system the team could use every day
  • Audit preparation - A stronger foundation for future food safety certification

The FoodReady Process

How Bushwick Tea turned food safety requirements into production routines.

Bushwick Tea combined FoodReady consulting with digital food safety software to create the program and put it into daily use.

1

Food Safety Requirements Review

FoodReady consultants first reviewed Bushwick Tea's operation and the requirements applying to its dry-tea production environment.
The review determined that the business needed a structured HACCP plan, SOPs, and operational checklists to strengthen compliance with applicable state requirements and establish more consistent food safety practices. This gave the project a clear starting point: build the documentation around how Bushwick Tea actually produced and packed tea.

2

Dry-Tea HACCP Plan Development

FoodReady consultant Dustin Steva developed a dedicated dry-tea HACCP plan for Bushwick Tea.The plan helped establish a formal framework for identifying potential food safety hazards, documenting controls, defining monitoring activities, and creating consistent records around production.Instead of relying on generic templates, Bushwick Tea gained a food safety plan developed specifically around its process.

3

SOPs & Checklists Created

The HACCP plan was supported with Standard Operating Procedures and checklists. These documents translated the broader food safety program into practical activities employees could carry out during routine operations. FoodReady's digital checklists also gave Bushwick Tea a way to reinforce consistency and attention to detail across production.

4

Mobile Receiving & Production Tracking

The FoodReady mobile app became one of the tools most frequently used by the Bushwick Tea team. Employees could use it to track incoming supplies and manage production runs closer to where the work was actually taking place. That helped move food safety records away from being a separate administrative task and into the production workflow itself.

5

Batch Monitoring

Bushwick Tea also adopted FoodReady's batch monitoring capabilities. Batch records gave the company a more organized way to document production activity and maintain visibility into what had been produced. For a small-batch brand focused heavily on consistency and quality, that structure supported greater control over day-to-day production.

6

Employee Onboarding

Once the food safety documentation had been created, Bushwick Tea employees were trained to use the software.
The team learned how to:

  • Log HACCP activities
  • Follow SOPs
  • Complete digital checklists
  • Track incoming supplies
  • Manage production runs
  • Use batch monitoring

This made the system part of everyday operations rather than something used only when an audit approached.

7

Building for Growth

As Bushwick Tea expanded, it moved into a new production facility and planned to broaden its use of FoodReady. The company also identified inventory management as an area for future use within the platform. That gave Bushwick Tea a system capable of evolving alongside its production needs rather than requiring another disconnected tool every time the business added complexity.

The Results

Proof that matters, to auditors and to buyers.

Bushwick Tea created a more organized food safety and production system while keeping the flexibility of a small-batch operation.

FoodReady connected Bushwick Tea’s key production activities in one system, from incoming supplies and mobile production records to HACCP checklists and batch monitoring.

For owner Ratesh Chopra, the biggest value was the transparency, accountability, and organization FoodReady brought to daily operations.

"FoodReady keeps us organized and professional. Most importantly, it keeps us accountable and transparent as a business."

Why FoodReady

Better tea depends on consistency behind the scenes.

Bushwick Tea needed predictable food safety processes without losing the flexibility of small-batch production. FoodReady provided the structure to make that possible.

Quality checks became repeatable

Digital checklists helped employees maintain attention to detail throughout production rather than relying solely on memory or informal routines.

Production became more visible

Batch monitoring and production run records gave Bushwick Tea a clearer view of what was happening across manufacturing activities.

Receiving moved into the same workflow

Incoming supply tracking allowed materials entering the facility to be documented alongside production and food safety activities.

Food safety became part of daily work

Mobile access helped employees complete HACCP activities, SOP-related tasks, and checklists as part of normal production rather than managing compliance separately.
